Exercise 2: Exterior Architecture
This is the Mary, Queen of the World
Cathedral. The cathedral was completed in 1894 and its architect was Victor
Bourgeau. The building was designed to be a low scale replica of St. Peter's
cathedral and it has a Neo-Renaissance and a Baroque architectural style. My
approach was to take a straight-line image of this church who has a backlit
lighting. I had to wait for cars to pass while taking this photo because I didn’t
want any automobile in the shot since I think they will be a distraction. I
wanted to highlight the cathedral as the main subject, but I also wanted to include
some of the surrounding like the tall building behind it and the construction
sign in the frame. The inclusion of some
of the surrounding like the skyscraper is to show that the church is situated in
downtown.
This is the Telus Tower it contains the
Montreal operations of Telus, the head office of Telus Health Solutions, but
also houses the local offices of Accenture, Roche, Canada Life, Clyde & Co,
Fairstone Financial, Inc., as well as a Bank of Montreal branch. The architect
was Gordon Bunshaft from the architectural firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill
with local architects Greenspoon, Freedlander and Dunne. The building had a façade
well lit lighting. For this image, I had to wait for the traffic light to turn
red to capture the automobile in one place. I wanted to highlight the
massiveness of the building by including part of the street which shows the pedestrian
and the vehicle which they are serves as a comparison in scale with the tall
building.
